Laura and Jeff were married at Devils Thumb Ranch in Tabernash, CO. Devils Thumb Ranch has one of the most epic Colorado views I’ve ever seen. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, you’re in for a treat! Laura and Jeff were married at the High Lonesome ceremony site and had their reception at the High Lonesome Lodge. The lodge is enormous. According to their website it can seat 250 guests so that’s perfect for those of you with a large guest count. Laura and Jeff had a vision to cover the barn in florals. The florals were no doubt my absolute favorite detail about this wedding! Project Floral was the mastermind behind the gorgeous bouquets and the florals dripping from the ceiling.
The ladies got ready in the Yager House. The guys got ready above the Yager Youse in the loft. Not many venues have a space like THAT to get ready in so I would definitely take advantage of the views and the location. It’s great because you can literally just step outside and jump into doing the first look or wedding party photos. No need to take a golf cart anywhere or waste any time! The giant windows in the Yager House allowed me to take some pretty spectacular silhouettes of the bride getting into her wedding dress.
One of my favorite details about the reception: a dragon ice sculpture inspired by Game of Thrones! Fun fact, I had the pleasure of going to Croatia last summer with my husband. We stayed right by the castle where Game of Thrones was filmed in Dubrovnik! It was so neat and reminded me of this gorgeous Devils Thumb Ranch wedding. I’m happy Laura and Jeff just had an ice sculpture of a dragon instead of a real dragon! While Devils Thumb Ranch certainly doesn’t have any dragons, they do have horses! If you love horses, this is the place for you!
Laura is originally from Germany so all her immediate and extended family flew in for the wedding. I remember seeing them in absolute awe of the grounds at Devils Thumb Ranch. Who wouldn’t be?! What a neat experience for them to see what Colorado has to offer!
How They Met: Laura and Jeff met one night at Gaslamp (a bar in Denver). The bar is unfortunately permanently closed due but it used to be pretty close to Union Station. Even though the two spotted each other at this bar, they never said a word to each other until it was almost too late! Jeff was getting into a cab to leave for the night and Laura tapped him on the shoulder. In her charming German ascent she asked him, “where he was going?” And the rest, as you know, is history. These two are smitten with each other.
Fun facts about Devils Thumb Ranch and Tabernash, CO!
Devils Thumb Ranch was recently voted #1 for best cross-county ski resorts by USA Today! That’s so impressive. I’ll leave the cross-country skiing up to ya’ll, as I was born and raised in Florida and have no business being out there sliding around on the ice! 🙂
According to Wikipedia, Tabernash, CO has a very small population of 400 people. They’re not far from Winter Park so be sure to check that out too on your way over to Devils Thumb Ranch!
The scenery seems so epic in Colorado! I’d love to go one day. (An Australian here.)
Thanks for your comment. You should visit Colorado! It’s so gorgeous here. 🙂
